Appearance
Rebecca is an attractive, dirty-blonde with friendly, girl-next-door features and in good physical shape from an active lifestyle and occupation. When at work she favours blouses or polo-shirts with trousers, with little adornment or jewelry. When off-duty she is fond of casual dresses and jeans and t-shirts. Her hair is kept shoulder-length and usually loose, although she often ties it up when concentrating (her friends joke "things are getting serious" when she ties her hair back).
Background
Rebecca was raised in Texas; her father was a construction worker and her mother a barista. Her parents hit financial problems during the recession and her father lost his job, leaving them to depend on her mother's job for income. This gradually led to him developing a drinking problem, which brought out his more violent side and he regularly beat Rebecca's mother.
This culminated on one occasion when her father lost his temper at Rebecca for something she does not even recall, and her mother shielded her from his drunken wrath. Rebecca only recalls of that day how furious her father was, the beating he gave his mother and the crying, screaming and tears from both mother and daughter. Screaming that, ultimately, would save their lives. The neighbours surely suspected the situation at the Williams household, and that night one of them called the police who arrived in time to save Rebecca's mother, who needed hospitalisation for her injuries.
The subsequent incarceration of the father, and divorce that followed, led to a better life for the two women who, after the divorce, now went using the mother's maiden name. But the intervention of the police that night left an impact on young Rebecca. Her father had always spoken of the police as if they were the bad guys that would come and take Rebecca away if she misbehaved, but this event made young Rebecca see them as saviours. She is convinced that had the police not come, that her mother would have died.
Making a fresh start after the divorce, the two women moved to Los Angeles, California, and began a new life. Rebecca's mother managed to get a job as a barista for a local coffee shop, and through hard work (and part-time jobs to finance it) Rebecca got her high school diploma and a degree in Criminal Investigation before joining the LAPD, graduating with honours from her class.
