About Chris

Chris is the oldest of 4 siblings, each of them born in London, United Kingdom. His father is a talented musician and a man of strong morals who was also born in London. His mother is a woman of great inner strength and determination who was born in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. Chris's family moved to Gibraltar when he was 9 years old and he has lived there ever since but tries to make it back to the UK to visit friends and family every few years.

Chris is a keen motorcycle enthusiast. He has been riding for 19 years and currently has a channel on youtube on which he records his rides and the maintenance and modifications that he carries out on his motorbikes.

Chris met Fenton 20 years ago when he attended the Gibraltar College. Fenton was one of Chris's teachers and though the two got on very well, it took a number of years for them to become the good friends that they are now.

Chris grew up watching Star Trek in the early 80's, influenced by his uncle Jim from whom Chris credits many of his quirks including his love affair with Coke. In later years he became more interested in the Star Wars movies because of spiritual aspect of The Force which the Star Wars movies offered.

Like many people, Chris had heard of Dungeons and Dragons and the word Role Play was often thought of as "those kids" who sit in their mums basement playing dress up and have no chance of ever getting laid! It was a work colleague and friend of Chris's who introduced him to Role Play luring him in with the promise of a Star Wars game. Chris went along to his friends house for a game night to see exactly what it was all about and to his surprise he found that he knew most of the people in the group, all friends of his and not the type to play dress up. Seeing friends made him feel more at ease and this was where he had his first taste of Role Play. The game was Werewolf: The Forsaken Chris browsed the core rule book while watching and listening to the others play and decided he wanted to join in. The GM gave him a character sheet which had been created by a player who had stopped playing and Chris immediately settled into character.

That September a number of people from the group went on holiday to America and that is when Chris was introduced to Fenton. Chris was pleasantly surprised to see his former college teacher had a role play group of his own and played with them while his own group was away. Fenton's group plays on Friday nights and this clashed with Chris's schedule at the time as this was when he played darts so when his own group returned from their holiday Chris stopped playing with Fenton's group and wouldn't play with them again until he was invited to a special one off session of Call of Cthulhu. It was this game that brought Chris and Fenton closer as friends and as a result, Chris stopped playing darts and chose to spend more time with his new friends on Friday nights. To quote Spock "Because you needed each other. I could not deprive you of the revelation of all that you could accomplish together, of a friendship that will define you both in ways you cannot yet realize."

Chris has participated in a number of games as a player including but not limited to:

Chris has had some success and some failed attempts as a GM :

  • Werewolf: The Forsaken His first attempt at GMing, which was essentially a success considering that there was a session every week for a year. This began as a dark ages campaign set on the border of England and Scotland but was migrated forward in time to a period Chris had better knowledge of, the Renaissance.
  • A one off special game of WoD in which the players were to play soldiers fighting against the creatures they were used to playing. This game was a flop and on the night when the players showed up there was no interest. A lesson well learned for the future.
  • Werewolf: The Forsaken Based on the success of his previous werewolf game, Chris wanted to return to his roots after a number of years away from the GM's chair. The game was set in London in the Modern era. The game had potential but was dropped due to a lack of interest from players.
  • Star Wars Set in the time of The Old Republic Chris's personal favourite era of the Star Wars universe. This game went on over the course of one summer. The game was shelved due to a number of inactive players, but is otherwise regarded as a successful if unfinished campaign.
  • He then ran a Battlestar Galactica campaign, which has been by far the most successful game he has ever ran as a GM. The game has been running on and off since 2012 and with it Chris has much improved as a GM. The game uses the Cortex System and is set just after the Exodus on board a ship imagined by the GM, Battlestar Hyperion which is the sister ship of the Battlestar Galactica and is very similar in design but was in service as a training ship prior to the Exodus and is now full of trainees who are fighting for their lives. Galactica saw Fenton rise up through the ranks from a Junior Lieutenant to Colonel.
  • Currently Chris is running a new Star Wars game, still set in The Old Republic era but further on along the timeline based on the popular MMORPG Starwars: The Old Republic. The game has been started from scratch using the Fantasy Flight rules and focuses largely on the Galaxy's criminal underworld.

Chris as a Player

As a player Chris likes to play somewhat social and usually friendly characters. Chris often plays his characters as being protective of others, not just other players and often accompanies this with more physical traits. Chris puts thought and energy into developing his characters and always has some form of background story or a strong concept to build on. Often his characters grow beyond their original design in game. Chris enjoys character progression and revels in his personal achievements. He dislikes other players interupting him during his turn or trying to convince him to change his mind. He strongly dislikes players who are antagonistic. He doesn't mind when one of his characters dies, in fact he rather enjoys it... as long as it for a good reason.

Chris as a GM

As a GM Chris is very easy going and wants his players to tell their own stories. He wont kill a player character off easily or without exceptional reason and will usually do what ever he can to help the players succeed. One of his biggest self critiques is that he is often too good to the players which can have a negative impact on games later on.
