Appearance
Zorah is a young ysoki with short light brown hair with ash highlights and large, bright blue eyes. Due to being from an ysoki clan that has spent generations mining asteroids, she has a longer, lankier body and more gaunt features than most ysoki. Her ears are wider than most ysoki, and her right ear has a small chunk taken out from where she was clipped on the day that would change her life. She usually wears a zero-g outfit with her Engineer's Jumpsuit stationwear and has an industrial backpack at all times, just in case she comes across any useful trinkets. When wearing her famous prototype power armour, she looks like an impressive medium-sized being of indeterminate race and gender, with her identify being hard to detect.
Background
Zorah was born on the ysoki trade frigate Farabarrium, a salvaged Atech Immortal left adrift by the Knights of Golarion after a brutal confrontation with an Eoxian cruiser several years ago; which the Shirsask Kaia ysoki salvagers laid claim to and were able to bring back online within 2 years’ time. With the significant firepower and space provided by the Farabarrium, the Shirsask Kaia decided to put down roots in the Diaspora and operate as a trade hub and salvage way station. The Shirsask Kaia were quick to negotiate a lucrative protection deal with the Free Captains in return for offering priority maintenance for all Free Captain vessels. Despite this, Zorah was born to a different ysoki clan, the Frye, a humble family of asteroid miners that mined nearby asteroids for resources which were then sold to the Shirsask Kaia, who then, in turn, used them to trade and provide services for their clients. She grew up learning the family trade but quickly found it a boring occupation, although she found herself enjoying the technical aspects of the job - the mining equipment, laser drills, space suits and ships employed - and it came naturally to her. To her family's chagrin, she took advantage of the presence of a Free Captains pirate vessel, to convince Captain Jaha Ching (or rather, Zorah convinced Jaha's wife Portia) to allow her to work her passage to Broken Rock, which Ching accepted. Zorah was instrumental in Captain Ching attacking a Hellknight Infernex Interdictus, with her small size, sneakiness and engineering knowledge helping to capture the vessel, which was quickly rechristened the Tabula Rasa.
Captain Ching was impressed by the moxy little ysoki, not just because of her engineering knowledge - as they had other ysoki engineers at least as capable - but by her special abilities with armour and willingness to get involved in the action. Whilst most engineers would remain on the ship, or keep their distance whilst providing engineering support, Zorah would be constantly tinkering with her armour, improving it using salvage obtained on their missions and assist the troops in combat as well as with engineering and hacking needs. Her flexibility meant that she was equally helpful filling in as one of the Rasa's engineers, science officers or gunners as needs arose. Her small size and natural dexterity made her ideal for stealthy missions. Although Zorah has long since paid off her debt, she was treated well by Captin Ching and the Rasa's crew and hung with them for a while, getting along especially well with Portia Ching. She particularly enjoyed spending time around humans (a race she found very fun to be around) in the recreation rooms on the Rasa and in Broken Rock, and was taught by fellow pirates how to play several musical instruments - developing a particular love for drums, which she found both fun, suited her natural agility well, and kind of reminded her of the sounds of the mining equipment she grew up around. Whilst Portia was away undergoing Solarian training at the Cosmonastery of the Empty Orbit on Absalom Station, the Tabula Rasa was attacked by Hellknights. Although Zorah would not claim to be responsible for the Rasa's escape, she was one of the few survivors (albeit with a large hole in her ear as a permanent reminder) and her bravery and contribution to the escape was noted by Portia Ching, who took over her husband's position as Captain of the Rasa. Zorah helped Captain Portia Ching assert her control, but found the power struggles and losses of Rasa-friends upsetting and, once the laser fire had settled down, decided to leave the pirate life behind, parting ways with Captain Ching at Absalom Station the next time they were in dock.
Since then she has operated out of Absalom Station with various groups - generally legal groups, but on occasion with some dubious crews. She loves exploring and being around machinery and starships, and goes where she feels. She has contemplated joining the Starfinder Society, but really deep down simply wants a crew to bond with like she once did on the Rasa, but preferably one that doesn't mean constantly watching out for Hellknights, Stewards and other similar groups.
Personality
Zorah is a cheerful, optimistic, brilliant, caring, obedient (usually), thoughtful, affectionate, nice, understanding, attentive, mature, organized, unselfish, sweet-tempered, empathetic, kind-hearted, encouraging, wise, independent, thoughtful, zany, cute, energetic and very beautiful young ysoki. She is often chattier than her comrades would like—and her constant travelling has left her with contacts across the Pact Worlds. She prides herself on being a good judge of character (even if she's not), and while she’s savvy enough to withhold actual trust until it’s been earned, she’s not above throwing herself into a fight on behalf of a near-stranger.
Though fully capable of working alone, she tends to get bored easily without people to talk to, and thus prefers to sign on with teams of adventurers, where she can act as the group’s resident starship engineer. While she still occasionally keeps in touch with her family, she doesn’t speak about her past much, as she knows her family were disappointed by her leaving the family business (and being a pirate for a few years didn't help) but when she does mention it, it is with a liberal helping of humour. She’s a fan of both taking minor trophies from previous jobs and scavenging spare parts that she’s positive may come in handy someday, inevitably turning her cabin into a riotous nest of cherished junk.
Zorah spends the majority of her downtime puttering about with her prototype armour. She often talks to it as a way of thinking out loud or voicing her innermost thoughts, attributing them to the armour in a way that can make her seem a bit unbalanced to those who don’t know her well. (And in truth, sometimes to those who do.)
When she's not working, Zorah loves music. She has learnt how to play some instruments and is often heard banging away on her drumkits and singing loudly (much to the consternation of her comrades). She finds the call of Karaoke almost as irresistible as her favourite snack - chocolate!
Other Notes
Zorah has a custom prototype armour that she has built herself. Although it has gone through many different appearances, colours and configurations in its different iterations, she has always nicknamed it the "Ironheart Suit" with a designation showing what major iteration it is. Each iteration is inevitably a major leap technologically over previous ones, reflecting both Zorah's increasing technical prowess and her personal proclivities, circumstances and, often, disposable finances able to be invested into her prototype. The current incarnation, Ironheart Mk V, medium-sized suit of powered armour that shares much in common with a spacer carapace (from which she retrofit many parts) with various upgrades providing greater flexibility of movement, reactive camouflage, thermal regulators and descent thrusters to allow safe descent from great heights. Whilst intended to be used primarily for scouting out areas, use on starships and zero-g environments, and to assist in searching for useful salvage, when needed it can provide considerable defence and combat support with its built-in light excavation laser rifle.
Combat Style
Not surprisingly for an ysoki, especially a nograv ysoki with natural dexterity surpassing that of even normal ysoki, Zorah is small and nimble with good hand-eye coordination, making her a reasonable shot with her Subzero Hail Pistol or Ironheart suit's Excavation Laser rifle. Combined with the considerable defensive capabilities and increased strength of her suit, this can make Zorah useful support in a gunfight. Her key skills being technological, however, Zorah is usually also able to help bypass electronic security and temporarily disable technological items, often disabling or overloading the weapons or equipment of enemies at key moments to create opportunities for her allies.
Social Style
Zorah is almost-annoyingly cheerful and optimistic, with boundless energy. She loves meeting new people, hearing stories of their exploits and discovering other races and, especially, their technology. She responds positively to those of friendly demeanour or who indulge her interests. Asides from mechanics, she loves music and chocolate, and both of these are perfect conversation topics or shared activities to endear her affections.
