	In order to avoid arrest, Emrys took ''the King's Shilling'' and joined the 95th Regiment of Foot, which were recruiting to replace losses in the 2nd Battalion in the Peninsula Wars (also known as the Napoleonic Wars), and due to the flood of recruits, was assigned to the new 3rd Battalion.
